Our book review
The book Indian Adventure is about Sita (14) and Sanjay (16) Gupta,
two teenagers who live in Chester/England and have Indian parents.
This is their first journey to India. They travel by plane and are without
their parents. In India they meet their Uncle Vikram, their grandmother
and other members of the family for the first time. They enjoy their
trip a lot but find out that India has got two sides: New Delhi is the
rich one and Khera is an example of the poor side of India.
Sita and Sanjay learn much about the Indian culture. So they visit the
Taj Mahal and they get to know a festival named Holi (the spring festival).
They also learn a lot about Indian gods, for example Krishna. They make
a lot of new friends. Sita meets her cousin Ravi who wants to marry
her, but Sita thinks that she is still too young. After some interesting
weeks in India Sita and Sanjay return to Chester and are happy to meet
their parents and friends again.
We liked to read this book. Sita and Sanjay are new in India. Before
they went to India, they didn't know anything about it. If you read
the book you think that you are in India yourself. In our opinion India
is interesting and we enjoyed to learn something about the everyday
life of Indian families. Besides it is good that it's a story about
teenagers and not about adults. There are some nice pictures in the
text but they are not coloured. We think that the book is easy to understand
because there are not many new words for someone who has been learning
English for three years and the book has also got a glossary.
The book costs 4.95 Euros and has got 47 pages (54 pages if you count
the glossary, too).
